MUTEK.JP’s annual Digi Lab discourse program took place in a fully virtual environment. On Wednesday, December 9, Patrick Savage, head of the CompMusic Lab at Keio University SFC opened the stage with an archaeological approach to music history in his performative presentation "Hearing Music Evolve".

Following Berlin-based music journalist Yuko Asanuma sought to "Redefine 'Diversity' in post-2020 Music Culture" together with Hiromi Matsubara, Mari Sakurai, and Mars89.

In his talk "A Night Before Established", Rhizomatiks founder and director of Panoramatiks Seiichi Saito explored possibilities to reinvent our current models of economy, society, and culture for a more sustainable future.

Concluding the Digi Lab 1 Tokyo University's Takashi Ikegami invited for the international session "ALIFE = ART + SCI", exploring the question of Artificial Life as a new approach towards Art & Science together with media artist and researcher Chris Salter, Sony CSL's Ken Mogi, French artist Justine Emard, Lars Holdhus from Norway, and UCLA's Victoria Vesna. Sessions were held in either Japanese or English.
